At the start of the new year, I set a personal challenge to get more corky with chalk art. I wanted to improve my skills and use different techniques to make my boards more interesting. For January, I kept the font in the family of block letters (still too chicken to branch out into the land of curvy letters) but chose to bend the font into a shape. It was a pretty basic shape, just a simple arch across the middle of the board. I added liners and shading to the layers and spruced up the chalk board with a giant Happy New Year banner. Adding simple banners is an easy way to bring in more color and additional English text. The banner could easily be changed throughout the month to incorporate different holidays, festivals, and other monthly celebrations.
